I was out picking up a few things at Walmart today and went by their seasonal section. All the Christmas decorations were reduced but they were filing up the shelves with........GARDENING STUFF!!!! Whooohoooo. I saw cute garden lights, soil, hoses all kinds of wonderful things. :o) Now of course around here we can't plant until June 1 (when I lived just outside Toronto it was May 24) but who cares. I was so excited.
I collected little yogurt containers and LUSH black pots, I am soooo turning into my Mother and Auntie. So I may just start a little indoor herb garden so I can smell the earth. AT this time of the year anything living is nice to have. It's a reminder that even though everything is snoozing under the ground, it will all be back soon.
I love the changing of the seasons and have to admit as hard as it is to get through January and February. Spring will return!
For several years I have attended the Canada Blooms in Toronto. It is a fabulous gardening show held during March break (second week of March) and the flower displays are fabulous. I get excited as I come in out of the bleak grey day, descend the escalator and you just feel the moisture in the air, smell the sweet fragrances and just drool at the stunning displays. The Toronto Garden club has several displays but there are always huge displays from nurseries, municipalities, wineries :D
There are seminars, local celebrities doing presentations and exhibitors from across Canada and the Eastern US.
At the end of the day, there are always florists selling off their bundles of fresh cut flowers. I came home once with several bundles of cut flowrs, including roses, for about $25.
My hometown of Brampton aka Flowertown (because of the large numbers of green houses) always has a wonderful exhibit. This was so cute - ice cream table and chairs.
This is my favourite stop throughout the day, a stop at a local winery for a sample of wine as I sit and enjoy.

Just a few more photos. These aren't the best but maybe you can scratch and sniff :)

The ice cream table covered in fresh flowers and matching chairs, how cute! I haven't been to the T.O. flower show, but judging from these pictures, I should go.
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous flowers. Signs of Spring indeed! Oh now it's you in a big chair! I thought I was on Deb's page for a second! You two cotttage-dwelling Canadian big chair sittin' gals are getting confusing!...Debbie
ReplyDeleteThank you Ladies :) yes, when I saw Deb's photo I remembered doing the same thing. It reminded me of Lily Tomlin when she did her 'Edith" routine. You know, climbing up on that thing, at my age, was not that easy.
