I must have read something that triggered thus post that I found as a draft
I am going to post it anyway, I may have rambled on and obviously been ticked off at something, but it is honest. Now why is Helen Reddy's 'I am Woman Song" going through my head.

I was browsing through some lovely cottage-y blogs of like minded ladies. Those of us who love vintage, cottage chic, beach decor, fine bone china, our furkids, flowers, crafts and read the line - 'older women like me who sometimes feels invisible'. Now this was a beautiful lady with a lovely family.
Women who are of a certain age remember our mothers day. The days when there was an attitude of women not really being useful once they were passed the child rearing ages. Those were the days when women who suffered depression, mood swings and other changes of menopause were institutionalised. Women were dismissed as 'going through the change'. Women going through menopause were invisible! I won't even touch the issue of lack of birth control let alone access to information on the topic. Women's health was not high on the priority list.
I am a baby boomer. I remember the protests and slow changes in attitudes, I also remember the stigma of being labelled a feminist, with a negative connotation, someone who didn't shave their legs and hated men. Oh puleeese. It seemed to be a label to discourage women from speaking out and taking control of their lives and their bodies - and demanding excellent health care. I was to have wonderful parents and great female role models in my family; Mom, Grandmas and Aunties
We as women are important and valuable at ANY age. Feminism is all about choices and being respected for that choice; whether you stayed at home and raised your family, worked outside the home, whatever you choose!
Well here it is 2009, we have made many gains in health care but you still have to search for a doctor who will listen and act on some of those peculiar symptons that comes with age and not patronize you with a pat on the head and "you're of the age now..."
By the way, how come Viagra is covered under many Rx/health insurance plans - yet so many new and improved cancer detection tests aren't. (We have cradle to grave health care here for everyone. It's a blessing, not perfect but EVERYONE in Canada is covered and can receive quality health care at the doctor of their choice.
/end rant and ramblings

*steps down off the soapbox and heads off the shower and get all fluffed and gussied up*
