Happy Moms Day

I hope all the Moms had a great day :) It was a great day to remember my own Mom.

As I mentioned, I was lucky to have wonderful parents. We grew up in a pretty nice home, not rich or fancy, but comfie, cozy and full of love. Oh sure we knew some lean times, but we were a family who loved and cared.

I moved back home with my folks when I was older and not only loved them, I got to know them better and enjoy their company. Heck - I liked my parents and liked spending time with them. We had fun! It worked well, and as they grew older they were able to stay in their home since I was around to keep an eye - discreetly and at a distance.

Then there were the two of us and I stayed as things were pretty good. I had a good job, a nice house, shared expenses which helped both of us, and good company. It was a good life. It was nice to come in and have news to share with her just like when I was younger. I still loved it when she made all my favourites, especially on a cold winter evening or a miserable rainy day. Mmmmmmmm mac and cheese, shepherd's pie and every other Friday was take out Swiss Chalet. ;)

Of course it was perfect for my Mom as she was able to live in her own home after she was diagnosed with cancer. There would be no nursing homes nor palliative care facilities - but her own home, a hospital bed (with nice sheets and pillows :0) in the living room so she could see out her front window - and I was there to be sure everything went well. It did. She had a great quality life, yes with some physical limitations, but emotionally and mentally she was excellent, until Easter. The last 1 1/2 weeks were tough...but I was able to honour her wishes and let her stay in her own bed in her own home.

I don't regret one minute and I still miss her. I always know she will always be the brightest star shining in the night sky.

Happy Mom's Day.

  1. Deb, thanks so much for sharing your wonderful tribute to your dear Mother. Mine is 92, and my brothers and I share in her care. It's a labor of love, trying at times, I'll admit....but, it's our mama!
Your last gift to her, was a gift in essence to yourself as well.
    God bless...and happy days.
    Susan
